One of the biggest aspects of anxiety is a constant stream of thoughts flowing through your mind that won’t seem to go away. These thoughts then seem to feed a sense of fear that is overwhelming that feels uncontrollable.
One of the biggest reasons that meditation can help treat anxiety is it helps the practitioner learn to simply watch these thoughts flow into the mind and then pass out. Instead of feeding your fearful thoughts by dwelling on them you simply allow them to pass through you mind and start to identify the silence that exists when you do. As a person that suffered from severe anxiety attacks, the first time this happens when you have one it’s a very freeing feeling.
One of the best ways to begin to learn this technique is through a guided meditation. The video below takes you through exercises to help reduce overthinking and anxiety.
